It has been so lovely to see all my Kindergarten friends over the last couple school days!

On Friday the afternoon class worked through 8 measurement activities in groups of 2.  They were measuring each other, measuring the hallway, ordering items, weighing items, and comparing the volume of containers using sand and water.
They are measurement experts now!

Today we had our last day of Inline Skating and the children were amazing, whizzing around the gym at great speeds!

Our focus today was on the number 6.  We watched a video about all the different ways we could show the number 6 and then we got to work showing the number 6 on a number line, a dice, a ten frame, with tally marks, with pictures and by printing the numeral.

We also talked about ways that we could break the number 6 up into parts and we discussed how we can show this using the plus and equal sign.  Using counters or our fingers to help us, we all tried to come up with some different ways that we could break the number 6 into parts and we experimented with writing these down using the plus and equal signs.

Please remember that our goal here is to understand how numbers can be made up of parts rather than developing proficiency at addition which will come at a later stage.

Also, remember that it is very normal for children to print their numbers backwards at this age.  As we work more and more with printed numbers over the next few months they will begin to develop greater accuracy in number printing.

Enjoy the nice weather this week and I will see you next Monday!
