I'm so sorry that you did not receive a blog post last Monday.  We were having some technical issues which have now been resolved.  This week I will update you on this Monday as well as last Monday!

Last Monday we made patterns out of loose parts.  The children each had a mat and were busily making a variety of patterns with the materials.

Their patterns were all so unique!

We have been working on labeling our patterns verbally with AB or AAB or ABC etc.  Some children continue to need support with this.  Try having your child make a pattern and then see if they can correctly label it with letters (ie. a pattern that goes blue, blue, red, blue, blue, red is an AAB, AAB pattern).

Last week we also worked on printing the number 2 and making sets of 2 objects.

We also talked about how 2 can be made up of 2 and 0 or 1 and 1 and used special double sided red and white counters to demonstrate this.
We drew this in our books.

This week we worked on a math problem.  Everybody choose 3 colours and then used the 3 colours to make as many different patterns as they could.

Many children found that drawing the patterns was more tricky than making them with objects!

Today we also learned how to become authors!  We have a new book making centre in our classroom.  The children are excitedly writing their own books about unicorns, fruit, hockey, the ocean, pizza and many other topics!  There is so much writing happening in our classroom...it is so exciting to see!

The children are so excited to share their books with the class when they are finished.  They know that writing a good book might take a few days or even a week or two!  They must draw a picture and write a few letters or words on each page and they are so motivated to do this!

Have a wonderful week everyone!  See you next Monday!
