Welcome to a new week in Kindergarten!

Today we learned a new math game called Race to the Top!

In this game we each had two dice.  We roll the dice and identify which dice is showing the highest number.  We say that number and then count ON to add on the number on the second dice.  For example, if we roll a 5 and a 3, we say 5...6, 7, 8.  Then we move the number 8 counter on our game board up a space.  We repeat this until one counter reaches the top.

This game allows us to subitize but also to count onwards from different numbers which is a very important skill as we prepare for addition tasks in the future.

We also had lots of fun!

Next Thursday and Friday you are invited to come with your child to Student Led Conferences.  Your child will have a chance to show you the classroom and lead you through some of our activities.  You will have a chance to learn from your child and to see what he/she is doing at school.

Unfortunately I will not be at Student Led Conferences next week.  There will be some math activities for you and your child to complete together which will demonstrate his/her learning and give you some examples of concepts that we are working on.

If you wish to speak with me about your child's progress in math please contact me by email (ljseddon@cbe.ab.ca) and we can set up a time.  Please know that if I have concerns about your child's progress in math I will be contacting you by telephone this week.

Have a wonderful week!
