Happy Monday!

This morning our students had a special visit from the author Nadia L. Hohn.  Nadia used singing, dancing and costumes to tell us her story,
Malaika's Costume.

Try asking your child if he/she remembers what the story was about.

This visit took up a large part of our morning, so we didn't have time for any math work today!

The afternoon class had a chance to catch up with the morning class by focusing on the number 7.

We worked on solving this problem:

You planted 7 seeds in your garden.  Some were carrot seeds and some were radish seeds.  How many carrots grew and how many radishes grew?

We are getting very good at breaking numbers down into their parts and brainstormed several ways to make 7.  Here are some ways that we thought of making 7 today:

6+1 = 7
4+3 = 7
5+2 = 7
8-1 = 7
10-3 = 7
1+1+1+1+1+1+1 = 7
1+5+1 = 7
2+2+2+1 = 7
12-5 = 7
5+3-1 = 7

Aren't we incredible?!

Have a great week and I'll see you next Monday!
