May 25-29

Happy Monday Kindergarten!

I can't wait to see you all today!  Please check the email from last Thursday for your google meet time and I'll see you there.
Don't forget to have your 3D mystery object and clues ready!

Last week you experimented with how 3D shapes stack, slide and roll!

You also played a game that used 2D and 3D shapes!

And...you went on 3D shape hunts all around your neighbourhoods!

Here are some more of your photos.
Can you spot the 3D shapes?

And...it looks like many of you had fun out in the rain!

Please click HERE for the weekly schedule!

For the next few weeks we are going to focus mainly on problem solving.  This week our problem solving will focus on 3D shapes since they are still fresh in our minds!  In the following weeks we will solve problems focused on other math concepts we have learned this year!

Problem solving is important in order for your child to develop critical math thinking skills.   When doing problem solving activities with your child TRY to step back and let them sort out HOW to solve the problem and how to show their work.  Of course, provide assistance when needed but try to let them be in control.  We want children to learn how to understand what a problem is asking them to figure out and how to show how they are thinking.

You will find a sheet to print with the problems on HERE if you would like to print them out.

Also, you will find images of the 3D shapes HERE if you would like to print them for your child to use while they are solving the problems.  Real 3D object will work best but if you can't find what you need then these images can help.

Day 1

  • Join us for our google meet this morning at your assigned time...don't forget to bring your mystery 3D object!
  • Solve this math problem, using real 3D objects or pictures of 3D objects to help.
  • Record your answer using drawings, pictures, numbers and words!

Day 2
  • Watch a 3D shape song HERE
  • Solve this math problem, using real 3D objects or pictures of 3D objects to help.
  • Record your answer using drawings, pictures, numbers and words!

Day 3
  • Watch another 3D shape song HERE
  • Solve this math problem.  Give your child one of each 3D shape or pictures of 3D shapes to use when solving the problem.
  • Record your answer with drawings, numbers and words.

Day 4
  • Today the problem is a little tricky!  Be sure to give your child one of each 3D shape or a pcito help them solve it! Remember that if your child needs support (for example, repeating the instructions, help to organize their work etc.) that is ok AND expected at this time.  However, try to follow their lead, let them make discoveries on their own and don't actually give the answer!  There is more than one right answer to this question.
  • Record your answer with drawings, numbers and words.

WOW...we should be 3D shape experts by now!!!!
Thank you to Kindergarten Kindergarten for these great problem solving ideas!
Your child should be able to name and describe the 3D objects that we have learned.
I encourage you to continue to look for 3D shapes all around you every day!

Can you believe we have been learning at home for 10 weeks?
Time is a strange thing!  You are all doing a fantastic job!
Thank you for all that you are doing!

Have a wonderful week!
